Arsene Wenger is known for his tight fisted and cautious approach to the transfer market. This time of year is always particularly frustrating for your average Gooner as they witness their rivals splashing the cash whilst their manager sits on his hands. This year could be different though, according to journalist Gilles Favard of French daily newspaper L’Equipe.

According to Favard, Arsenal are ready to make a second bid for Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez after having an initial bid of £30 million rejected. Via his twitter account he today announced that Mahrez has told Leicester that he wants a move to Arsenal, who are reading a second bid of £35 million for the Algerian.

Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri has attempted to pour water over claims linking Mahrez with a transfer this summer. Speaking to Sky Sports, he stated: 'He [Mahrez] stays with us. We wanted to keep all our players. Of course, Kante had the clause and Chelsea paid the clause. But Riyad does not have the clause and he will stay with us. Yes, he told me he will stay with us.'

With Manchester City bringing out the big bucks for Stones and Mourinho goading any manager who will listen following his signing of Paul Pogba for United, Arsenal fans will be praying there is some substance to this sensational swoop for Mahrez.
