Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he needs to rotate his side as they prepare for tough games.
Spurs have been in good form lately. After defeating Chelsea 3-1 in the Premier League last weekend, they proved that they are capable of challenging for the League title this season.
They followed up the victory against the Blues by claiming a morale-boosting 1-0 victory against Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday. The result means that Mauricio Pochettino’s do have a chance of advancing to the Champions League last-16.
However despite this, Inter will still be the firm favourites to advance and Spurs are expected to drop down to the Europa League. The North Londoners next play against Spanish heavyweights Barcelona at the Camp Nou and they will have to win the game if they want to stand a chance of advancing to the last-16.
Inter meanwhile will be expected to defeat PSV in their last game. PSV have been poor in the Champions League this season and have so far only managed just one point in their group games.
Next up in the Premier League for Tottenham is a game against London rivals Arsenal. The Gunners have been in superb form this season and Pochettino surely cannot afford to rest any of his in-form players for the game against Unai Emery’s side.
However, he will need to rotate in order to maximize his sides performance over-time.
Speaking after the game against Inter, he said as quoted by The Standard:
“We have big respect for Barcelona, one of the best teams in Europe.
“Of course, they have unbelievable players and it’ll be so tough — but one thing we have is our belief and faith we can win. We only need to show again a good level to compete at our best.
“To arrive at Barcelona and compete in our best we need to have fresh legs, fresh minds, no injuries. To arrive in that way in Barcelona we need to manage and we need to rotate the squad. If not, the demands of the Premier League are so tough.
“We’re playing in the Champions League and the [Carabao] Cup against Arsenal at the Emirates. Playing games every three days is so tough — so tough for us, and for our players it’s so, so difficult. They’re not going to have one day off until January.”
