West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini has suggested that Jack Wilshere could make a return to action this weekend when his side come up against Newcastle United.
The Hammers will be looking to bounce back during the game after being thrashed 4-0 by Manchester City last weekend. However, they face a tough task against Rafa Benitez’s charges who have won their past three consecutive games after having started the season in dreadful form.
Speaking ahead of the game, Pellegrini told Football.London:
“Well, Andy is maybe one step forward than Wilshere because he played 45 minutes in the friendly game that we had against Brentford.
“Last game he was on the bench, he has worked without any problems this week, same as Jack. Maybe they will be in the squad list for tomorrow.”
The injury-prone Wilshere who joined the Hammers from London rivals Arsenal last summer has not played for the club in nearly three months after undergoing ankle surgery.
Meanwhile Andy Caroll is yet another player who could return to competitive action against the Magpies this weekend.
The former Liverpool striker has not played a minute of football this season but was on the bench during the mauling by City. West Ham need points from the upcoming game. They are only four points clear of the relegation zone and defeat could see them land in a precarious position.
Newcastle will however go in as favourites as they will have home advantage and have also been in better form lately.
