Chelsea must hold onto dynamic youth talent amidst interest from Barcelona

According to reports in Spain via The Sun, Barcelona have stepped up their interest in Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen as they want cover for Samuel Umtiti who is struggling with a knee injury
Christensen is a product of the Chelsea youth development system and will naturally have a close connection to the club after having represented it at various youth levels through to senior level.
Unlike many of the players from the Blues academy who simply fall off the radar and failing to establish themselves within the senior side, Christensen is an exception who did so.
The 22-year-old was a first-team regular for Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge last season and went on to make 27 appearances in the Premier League and 40 appearances in all competitions.
Christensen has managed to develop into a quality centre back and has drawn comparisons to Blues legend John Terry.
It is rather unfortunate that Christensen is not playing much this season. Maurizio Sarri has opted to utilize Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz as his first-choice defensive combination.
This has unfortunately meant that Christensen has only appeared once in the top-flight to date. At 25-year-old, Rudiger could go on and represent the Blues for many years to come.
At 31-years-old, Luiz is past his prime and tends to also be error prone. The Brazil international is still capable of churning out quality performances but considering his age and inconsistency, this is unlikely to go on for the far future.
Christensen would then be the perfect candidate to step in and the Blues will then not have to fork out a hefty amount in order to recruit a new centre-back.
