Tottenham defender Danny Rose has suggested that his side deserved to beat Barcelona following their 1-1 Champions League draw against the Spanish giants at the Camp Nou on Tuesday night.
Ousmane Dembele gave the Blaugrana an early lead. Most would have expected the La Liga Champions to coast to victory especially as they were playing on their home turf.
However, Lucas Moura managed to snatch an equalizer during the 85th minute after he connected with Harry Kane’s cross. Inter Milan drew 1-1 with PSV Eindhoven in the other group B encounter. Both Spurs and Inter rounded off the group stage with 8 points and a -1 goal difference. However, the North Londoners advance to the last 16 of Europe’s premier club competition by virtue of having a better head to head record over their Italian counterparts.
Many would not have given the Lilywhites a chance as they took just one point from their opening three Champions League games and were on the verge of elimination. This will no doubt go down as one of the highlights of Mauricio Pochettino’s term as manager of the club so far.
Rose has since also suggested that he feels that his side should have won the game. As reported by Sky Sports, the England international said:
“It’s got to be up there with one of the best nights. Everybody didn’t think it was possible after two or three games. We only have ourselves to blame that we left it this late. I think more than anything it’s just frustrating for ourselves because we’ve come here, we’ve done really well, and we should have won comfortably.”
