Arsenal are thought to be one of a number of Premier League clubs who are monitoring Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho very closely with a view to making a move for the Englishman in either January or the summer transfer window.
Sancho moved to Dortmund from Manchester City in August 2017 for a fee of £8 million. The youngster rejected the chance to stay at City and instead moved to Germany where his chances of regular first-team football were much higher. That decision looks to have paid off for the winger as he is now a regular in the Bundesliga side and is progressing all the time.
So impressive have the performances from Sancho been this season in Germany, Gareth Southgate has opted to wait no longer to give the 18-year-old the opportunity to join the national team squad to face Croatia and Spain in the UEFA Nations League. Southgate will be looking for Sancho to be a key part of the team at Euro 2020 and then at the World Cup in 2022 in Qatar.
Sancho has already made a big impact with England as he was part of the under-17 team which won the World Cup in 2017. Along with Phil Foden and Rhian Brewster, Sancho was one of the players who really stood out in India and was tipped to have a big future in the game.
Arsenal have made a solid start to the season under the hands of new boss Unai Emery. They can now be backed at 6/4 with moplay.co.uk to make the top four at the end of the campaign. The addition of Sancho though would certainly help them achieve the goal of qualifying for the Champions League this season.
In order to capture a youngster like Sancho, the Arsenal board would have to back Emery with a club record transfer fee. Some reports suggest Dortmund are looking for in the region of £100 million before they will consider a sale. Although that fee may seem a little high, Arsenal would need to break the bank as the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham are all thought to be interested and may just make an investment in the talented Englishman.

Manchester City are the bookmakers’ favourite to sign Sancho as they inserted a buy-back clause into the transfer deal with Dortmund when they sold their youngster. In order for City to get first refusal though, they must at least match the highest bidder for the player. Given he had to leave the Premier League champions in 2017, Sancho may be reluctant to return to the Etihad Stadium.
It will be interesting to see how ambitious Arsenal are going to be during the next two transfer windows as they look to bridge the gap between themselves and Manchester City. The signing for Sancho would certainly make a bold statement about their plans going forward and could be the first step in trying to become Premier League title contenders once again.
