A section of the Tottenham Hotspur fans were left proud after defender Jan Vertonghen was named the Champions League Player of the Week following his fantastic showing against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.
The Belgium international was entrusted with the left wing-back position in the absence of both Ben Davies and Danny Rose through injuries and he made his chance count with a man of the match display against the Bundesliga leaders.
The experienced defender initially helped Heung-min Son open the scoring in the second half with a fantastic cross and thereafter he scored a sublime goal of his own with a stunning volley on the far post from a Serge Aurier delivery.
The north London club thereafter went to triple their advantage with Fernando Llorente finding the net before the final whistle and this has offered them with a comfortable 3-0 advantage ahead of the reverse leg of the Champions League round of 16 next month.
In relation to this, Vertonghen was one of the nominees for the Player of the Week on the UEFA website and Spurs have now confirmed that the Belgian has indeed bagged the podium after his impressive second half performance against Dortmund.
