Report: European giants could offer Tottenham chance to sign superstar, but there’s a catch

Spanish news outlet Marca are reporting Real Madrid would like to swap Gareth Bale for Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen.

Los Blancos are running out of patience with Bale, with the Welshman struggling for both form and fitness, and that, combined with Vinicius Junior’s rise to prominence, could spell the end for the former Spurs forward at the Bernabeu.

With Cristiano Ronaldo gone to Juventus, the 13th-time European Cup winners expected more this season from Bale.

However, Bale has failed to live up to expectations, scoring just six goals in 19 La Liga appearances.

And according to Marca, Madrid will look to send him packing this summer.

The Spanish publication suggests that the La Liga giants will offer the Wales international to Tottenham in exchange for Christian Eriksen.

The Denmark international’s current contract with Spurs expires in the summer of 2020, so Mauricio Pochettino could be tempted in sanctioning his exit, especially if Bale makes the return to north London.

Bale, 29, is still under contract with the La Liga giants until the summer of 2022 and would have to accept a pay cut to join Tottenham in the summer.

Whether Tottenham fans would be a happy to see the Welsh wizard arrive in place of Eriksen, however, is debatable.

The 27-year-old is one of Spurs’ most important players, and considering Bale’s recent decline, the north London outfit would be well within their rights to demand cash as part of the deal too.
