‘Absolutely not’, ‘Terrible Signing: Some Rangers fans react links with 34-year-old

Scottish giants Rangers were linked with a move to sign Middlesbrough ace Stewart Downing last week, according to a report from Gazette Live.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard is keen on bolstering the core of his team, with the signing of his former Liverpool teammate allegedly top of his wish-list.

If Downing does join Rangers, Gerrard would have yet another player over 30-years-old on his roster, and that will surely not be greeted with much optimism from the Ibrox faithful

The 34-year-old has made over 600 career appearances to date, and earned himself 35 international caps for the England national team. Downing’s current contract with Boro will be up in the summer, and he will be free to leave the club on a free transfer.

Downing does possess undoubted quality, and he might turn out to be a useful addition to Gerrard’s side, but many Rangers fans don’t seem to be convinced.
