Mark Lawrenson predicts two goals in Everton vs Liverpool clash

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson suggested that Everton could share the spoils against Liverpool during Sunday’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

The Toffees recently returned to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 win at Cardiff City on Tuesday night, with Gylfi Sigurdsson starring for Marco Silva’s side.

Despite this, they can expect a much stiffer challenge when their cross-town rivals visit them, although Lawrenson believes Everton can get something from the derby.

When providing his weekly predictions for BBC Sport, Lawrenson stated that Marco Silva’s side were unlucky to lose in the reverse fixture at Anfield earlier this season.

He does not fancy a similar outcome for Liverpool this time around, however, and feels things may not go to plan for Jurgen Klopp’s side:

“If Everton are gritty, and approach the game thinking they want to take a point at the very least, then I can see them getting some joy.”

Lawro’s prediction: 1-1

Everton have generally stepped up their performances when it comes to the derby against Liverpool, and Silva will no doubt be emphasising the importance of his team shutting down the opposition’s attack.

Moreover, Liverpool have everything to lose in this game, as they cannot afford to drop points, and this may present a low-scoring and cagey affair which has been the case in the past three league meetings.
