Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that both Harry Winks and Eric Dier have travelled for the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 clash at Borussia Dortmund.
Winks had missed the recent north London derby against Arsenal with a hip concern, while Dier has been sidelined for the past five matches after going down with a bout of Tonsillitis.
In a press conference covered by Football.London, Pochettino confirmed that the duo have travelled alongside the squad for the game at Signal Iduna Park, although a late fitness test would determine their involvement.
“We need to assess both. They are here because still we need one day more to assess if they’re going to arrive. I don’t know.”
Meanwhile, Pochettino added that Dele Alli has begun integrating with regular training and he could receive some game-time during the weekend’s Premier League clash against Southampton.
“Dele is close we will see if it is possible to for Saturday to be involved with the team against Southampton,” he added.
Aside from the trio, Pochettino mentioned that Kieran Trippier has been left out of the Dortmund trip with ‘some small problem’ sustained during the weekend’s derby draw against the Gunners.
Tottenham are in the driving seat with a three-goal advantage heading into the second leg of the round of 16 against Dortmund, but they need to guard against any complacency creeping into their game.
An away goal at Signal Iduna Park would witness Dortmund needing five goals to progress further in the competition, and that is something which Spurs should seek to find early on to dent the host’s confidence.
