Report: 26-year-old Liverpool ace close to agreeing pre-contract Anfield exit

Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno is reportedly on the cusp of agreeing on a pre-contract to join Lazio at the end of the campaign. The Spain international has been deemed surplus to requirements under Jurgen Klopp this term, and he has not featured for the Reds in any competition since their FA Cup third round exit at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

According to The Independent, the former Sevilla man is close to sealing a switch to Serie A, with Lazio willing to finalise terms over a Bosman move in the summer. Moreno has received his fair share of criticism during his time at Merseyside, but he was still granted with a regular role at the beginning of the previous campaign.

As the season progressed, however, summer signing Andrew Robertson managed to leapfrog him in the pecking order for the left-back role, and the Scotland international has since cemented the position on a permanent basis, while evolving into one of best-performing full-backs in the Premier League.

In this situation, Moreno has been left out in the cold, and with his contract expiring in three months time, it appears that he will be heading through the Anfield exit door in the summer, regardless of whether the club pursue a replacement or not.

Liverpool have stuck with Robertson for the left-back duties for the majority of the campaign, but they will miss his services for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Porto following a suspension. Still, Moreno appears unlikely to fill the void with James Milner or Joe Gomez set to be preferred ahead of him.
