Silva responds when asked if Everton ace is mentally struggling ahead of Liverpool clash

Everton manager Marco Silva has said that Jordan Pickford is focused on the job at hand against Liverpool, and he is not concerned about the mistake his goalkeeper made during the reverse fixture between the two sides.

Back in December, the Toffees were on course for a hard-earned point against their Merseyside rivals at Anfield, but the Reds won the game 1-0 in dramatic fashion in the dying seconds.

Pickford had tried to collect Virgil van Dijk’s looping volley in the 96th minute but instead, he parried the ball from the cross bar into Divock Origi’s path, as the Belgian headed home the winner.

Speaking ahead of the derby, Silva was asked whether the incident would have any effect on the shot-stopper, but the Portuguese replied with positivity by stating that the 24-year-old is only focused on the job ahead.

He told The Liverpool ECHO: “For the next match? No, no. What is in his mind is to perform well, do well and to help the team to win.”

Everton recently ended a run of three winless league matches after bagging a comfortable 3-0 win over Cardiff City on the road.

The victory witnessed the return to form for Gylfi Sigurdsson, who scored a brace, and the Icelandic ace could be crucial to the Toffees’ hopes of getting a positive result in Sunday’s derby.

Everton are winless in the past 16 Premier League meetings against Liverpool, but they have frustrated their cross-town rivals with stalemates in two of the past three encounters.
