‘Terrible’, ‘Absolute clown’: Some Liverpool fans tear into £70k-a-week ace after Burnley win

Joel Matip

Despite Liverpool coming back from behind against Burnley with Roberto Firmino’s brace and a goal from Sadio Mane, it wasn’t enough to stop their fans from tearing into Joel Matip, who had a terrible performance in the first half.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker was at fault for the Burnley’s opening goal, but it was Matip who put the ball out for the corner in the first place, when he really did not need to.

Matip, who at a point in time was always calm and composed at the back, was not in his best day for Liverpool in the opening 45 minutes today, and the Reds supporters took to Twitter tearing into him for what they deemed to be a poor performance.

Today’s win against Sean Dyche’s side saw Liverpool reduce the gap to league leaders Manchester City back to just one point.

If Liverpool are to win the league, however, every single one of their players will have to improve upon their performances today, none more so than Matip.

Here are some of the best tweets from Liverpool fans, slating the former Schalke man for his display at Anfield today…

  1. Funny how people who dont know anything can call Matip a clown.
Could they be City clowns themselves?

  2. Is Gary Snivelle writing this shite as a sideline? Allison was fouled but as we have Manchester fanboy Officials it was as usual not spotted.

  3. This Manc spewpiece claims that Alisson was “at fault for Burnley’s opening goal” yet all agree it was a foul.
That is is you need to read; although quoting some fake LFC accounts being negative will always flesh out a spurious hatchet job.

  5. Some of you are a joke you defend your players and club at all times. He didn’t do it on purpose even if we don’t win the league I’m proud of all of them one defeat so far and have made up 20 odd points on city from last season. Y.N.W.A
