Some sections of the Manchester City supporters were impressed with the performance of Riyad Mahrez during yesterday’s 1-0 Premier League win over Bournemouth on the road.
The Citizens had gone into the game needing a win to keep the pressure on Liverpool and they managed to do so with the slenderest of margins against a defensively-minded Bournemouth side.
Mahrez, who had an average performance against West Ham United last time out, came in for the injured Kevin de Bruyne in the closing stages of the first half, and shortly after the interval, he produced the match-defining moment.
The Algerian found the scoresheet in the 55th minute with a low right-footed shot towards Artur Boruc’s near post and this ended his three-month drought in the Premier League without finding the net.
Where them Mahrez haters ??? Job done ! #MCFC

Pleased for Mahrez – he has had no breaks and struggled to find his flow in the last three months – hopefully that goal will be a turning point.

Well done again today lads, especially to Mahrez. Got to keep winning and put the pressure on Liverpool, then hope they slip up before we do. ??

Mahrez has experienced a tough period since the beginning of December with Pep Guardiola preferring the likes of Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva ahead of him for the wider attacking positions.
This has coincided with a dip in form for the Algerian especially in the top-flight, but hopefully, the winning strike against the Cherries can bring about a change in league fortunes for the 28-year-old.
