On Saturday, Fulham pulled off a feat they hadn’t managed all season long — winning an away match in the Premier League.
Star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic converted the penalty that propelled Fulham to a 1-0 victory, and after the match, the Serbian’s comments provided a potential transfer hint.
With the Whites destined for relegation, many expect Mitrovic to depart in the summer and remain in the Premier League. The centre-forward has been Fulham’s most dangerous attacking threat all season, with his second half winner marking his 11th goal of the campaign.
After the away end reverberated with chants of ‘Mitro’s on fire’, the striker made some interesting remarks in his post-match interview that had Fulham fans dreaming of next season.
Even after Fulham’s relegation was confirmed, Mitrovic said the support has been exceptional.
“What can you say, we have the best fans in the world,” Mitrovic said.
The public statement of appreciation will go a long way with the Fulham faithful, as every supporter loves to hear the players on the pitch acknowledging their presence.
And the comments certainly did not appear to be coming from a man who is desperate to ditch Fulham come the summer.
