Against all odds, Tottenham Hotspur conjured up one of the most unlikely results in their recent history last night, securing their place in the last four of the Champions League after an away goals aggregate victory against Manchester City.
Spurs fans rejoiced on Twitter after the final whistle, revelling in the remarkable aggregate victory that shocked the footballing world.
A frantic opening ten minutes saw four goals scored, with the sides tied at 2-2, but with Tottenham ahead on aggregate. At half-time, City had a 3-2 advantage, but needed one more goal to go ahead and win the tie.
Sergio Aguero put Manchester City 4-3 ahead on aggregate with an hour gone, before a late Fernando Llorente strike pushed Spurs in front on away goals.
And the drama wasn’t done there — Raheem Sterling had a last-minute goal ruled out for offside due to VAR, a shocking end to a frantic match.
After the bedlam at the Etihad, some Tottenham supporters expressed their relief and exhilaration at their place in the semi-finals.
I am emotionally drained from that game. COYS!! #Tottenham
