Liverpool will be aiming to return to the top of the Premier League table when they face Southampton on the road tonight.
The Reds had good fortune on their side as they secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, but they need to produce a much-better performance against Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side, who have bagged back-to-back triumphs at St Mary’s.
Formation: 4-3-3
Predicted Lineup:
Alisson Becker has been the undisputed choice in the Premier League through the season and the Brazilian is expected to feature between the sticks once more. The Brazilian is currently leading the Golden Glove race with one clean sheet more than Manchester City’s Ederson, and he will be eager to improve on the statistic after conceding in each of the past three league games.
The defence should remain unchanged with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson occupying the full-back positions whilst Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip should feature at the heart of the backline. Dejan Lovren remains available for selection for the central defensive duties, but Klopp is unlikely to consider any changes, given the importance of the fixture.
In midfield, Klopp could be tempted to make at least one change after setting up defensively with Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum last time around. Reds skipper Henderson could make way for Fabinho, who impressed with his pressing against Spurs after making a cameo appearance off the bench.
In attack, the trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are very much certain to feature. Mane and Firmino have been contributing towards the Reds’ title push in recent weeks, but the focus could once more be on Salah, who has gone eight matches across all competitions without finding the scoresheet.
Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson, Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner, Fabinho, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino
