Championship leaders Norwich City continued their promotion charge with a 4-0 dominant victory over manager-less Queens Park Rangers.
Daniel Farke’s side have now recorded nine wins from their last 10 Championship fixtures to take them 10 points clear of third-placed Sheffield United who visit Preston North End later today, and eight points clear of Leeds United who occupy second position.
The Canaries were 2-0 up just 12 minutes into the game, with Emi Buendia opening the scoring before assisting Marco Stiepermann’s second goal.
Teemu Pukki, the league’s top scorer, scored his 25th goal of the season to extend the first-half lead courtesy of another assist from Buendia, as Norwich threatened to embarrass their opponents.
However, Farke’s men were reduced to 10 men when Buendia was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Josh Scowen with 21 minutes still remaining.
Buendia’s dismissal did not affect his team, however, as Pukki found the back of the net to make it four against QPR.
While the Norwich fans were celebrating the club’s 25th victory of an incredible season that should see them return to the top flight for the first time since their relegation in 2016, there were fans of other clubs that took social networking site Twitter in reaction to Buendia’s sending off.
Here are some of the best tweets…..
Bad tackle by Buendia(?) but still, Inconsistent refereeing, it was no worse than the tackle on Buendia just before… IMHO.

Why wouldn’t we applaud Buendia off?! He scored a goal and made an assist.. He had an awesome game but made a mistake committing a serious foul. #NCFC ?

Buendia 3 game ban.. that’ll do #lufc

Dives to win a free kick then dives in off the floor. All bias aside that was disgusting from buendia, especially to play the protesting wronged party. Farke giving it out now. Norwich simply don’t need to do that

Let's be honest, Buendia gets targeted so much every game, he was bound to lash out at some point. Its a learning curve. Sure he'll know better in future. #ncfc #canarycall

Buendia is the sort of player who will get a red card occasionally and give away free kicks and penalties, but I wouldn't change him for the world. He is something special. @Em10Buendia #ncfc #otbc

sad to see #ncfc fans actually clapping Buendia off the pitch after his red card .. stupid, irresponsible “challenge” ends a career if it catches a standing leg .. cruising, no need for it, yet Canaries think it’s a great idea to applaude the fool #LUFC

Buendia has just been sent off so will miss Wednesday’s match against us. Still think Norwich will have far too much as they’ve got quality back up. https://t.co/4fpO6BaTgj

Can it be appealed? The QPR player has let himself down there. Also silly from buendia, can see why it was given for the intent.

Frustrating second half really. Earlier subs had to be used there, but no excusing Buendia’s stupidity. I desperately hope Cantwell doesn’t start now. #ncfc

Norwich City, who need four victories from their final six matches to seal their Premier League return, play host to Reading on Wednesday, and will visit relegation-threatened Wigan Athletic next Sunday.
