The two players Fulham must keep if they are to be Championship promotion contenders

With Fulham destined for the Championship next season, many fans have begun to think about which players in this year’s squad will remain at Craven Cottage come August.

For the vast majority of the players who have contributed to their disastrous campaign following their return to the Premier League, fans will have little sadness seeing them leave.

But in the cases of club captain Tom Cairney and leading goalscorer Aleksandar Mitrovic, Fulham must do everything in their power to keep the duo in SW6.

Luckily for Whites supporters, according to recent reports in The Mirror, Fulham are aggressively looking to keep Cairney and Mitrovic at the club, as both are locked into long-term contracts.

Furthermore, the paper claims on their website that Fulham are interested in offering the two fresh contracts this summer to ensure they stay in southwest London, a massive sign of intent that would mark the club out as among the favourites for promotion next season.

Cairney is reportedly more likely to stay than the Serbian international. The midfielder is influential to Fulham’s passing style of play and is a crucial member of the Whites’ dressing room core.

Mitrovic was arguably the spark that propelled Fulham to the play-offs last season, joining in January and tearing up the Championship with his goals in the second half of the season.

The prospect of Cairney and Mitrovic sticking with Fulham in the Championship is an alluring one, and Fulham fans would expect the duo to take the division by storm and help the Cottagers mount a serious promotion challenge.
