Deal Close: Liverpool close to agreeing a £22m deal with La Liga club for 25-year-old

Premier League giants and Champions League finalist Liverpool F.C are reportedly closing in on an agreement to sign La Liga centre-back for €25m.

The report is according to International Business Times reporter Oier Fano Dadebat via Caught Offside who claims the Reds are close to agreeing a deal to sign Real Sociedad defender Diego Llorente, who came through the youth ranks with Real Madrid – for a reported €25m (£22m).

Llorente has registered 21 appearances at the heart of defence for the La Liga club this season, and he’s also a good passer of the ball.

The 25-year-old’s brilliant performance at defence would see him fit in well at Liverpool alongside the Merseyside centre-back Virgil van Dijk if he’s to make the move to Liverpool.

While he cannot be guaranteed a straight starting berth immediately at Anfield, Llorente would provide good competition to the likes of Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren and could even earn a starting role for FA Cup, League Cup and the likes matches.

Liverpool would benefit from having another option at centre-back in the rank ahead of the upcoming 2018/19 season who would provide cover for Joel Matip and Joe Gomez who’s recuperating from his ankle injury.

In other Liverpool news, the Reds have been joined by La Liga powerhouse Atletico Madrid in the race to sign Brazilian international and Ajax Amsterdam forward David Neres.
