Gareth Southgate’s Harry Winks comments will delight Tottenham fans

As Tottenham Hotspur prepare for their Champions League final against Liverpool in June, the club is anxiously awaiting updates on injured players like Harry Kane and Harry Winks.

In a boost for Spurs supporters, both players were named in Gareth Southgate’s UEFA Nations League squads, indicating their rehabilitation is progressing smoothly.

And in Winks’ case, Southgate’s hopeful comments will give Tottenham fans reason to rejoice ahead of the European final.

“For the likes of Harry Winks, he deserves to be named in this initial squad, and then we’ll go from there really,” Southgate told Football.London.

“Tottenham are optimistic he’ll be available for their game, but it’s very much a case of he hasn’t played for a couple of months now, and we’re just going to have to follow that progress.”

Southgate revealing that the north London club expects 23-year-old to be back for the Liverpool match is excellent news for Spurs. With their squad hit by devastating injuries this season, any return of quality players is welcome.

And for the biggest game of the season, it will be comforting to have Winks available in the centre of midfield.

It is rare for international managers to reveal important injury updates about their country’s players, which makes Southgate’s comments even more encouraging for Spurs.

With midfield maestro Winks looking likely to return in time for the final, Tottenham have one more weapon in their arsenal as they bid to to bring home their first Champions League trophy.
