Ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League final against Liverpool on June 1, Danny Rose has been giving his thoughts on manager Mauricio Pochettino.
In an interview with TalkSport, the left-back expressed his respect for the Argentinian’s man-management, revealing how important he is to the Tottenham cause.
Rose’s comments illustrate how crucial it is for Spurs to keep hold of Pochettino in the future, as his impressive achievements on a limited budget have won over his players.
“He’s a very likeable person, he’s very calm and even when we’re losing there’s only been one or two times where he’s raised his voice at half-time,” Rose said.
“He’s very approachable too, so I can’t speak highly enough for him and what he’s done for my career at Tottenham. He’s changed me as a player and promised me he’d make me an England player.”
At times, Rose has been frozen out under Pochettino, and the defender came close to leaving the club in the summer of 2018.
But the 28-year-old has enjoyed a stellar 2018/19 season, proving critical to Spurs’ Champions League run and top-four Premier League finish. For a player to be so close to an exit and to speak so glowingly about his manager is a rare sign.
But Pochettino’s charisma knows no bounds and has created a brilliant atmosphere in the Tottenham squad.
As evidenced by Rose’s praise, Pochettino is loved in north London and is the driving force behind Spurs’ unlikely success.
