Ruben Loftus-Cheek discusses future, Chelsea fans will be delighted

Chelsea are through to the final of the Europa League after beating Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties on Thursday night.

The Blues went 1-0 up on the night thanks to a goal from the excellent Ruben Loftus-Cheek but were pegged back by a calm finish from Luka Jovic that forced the game into extra time.

Loftus-Cheek’s smart, curling goal was just reward for his sterling display, carrying on from his dominant performance in the first leg of the semi-final in Frankfurt.

The 23-year-old is enjoying his best season yet at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea fans will be delighted that the midfielder is content in west London.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s match, Loftus-Cheek expressed his desire to remain at the club.

“It’s important for me to focus on the here and now, and I’m playing right now,” he told Sky Sports.

“It’s looking good, so there’s no reason why I should think about leaving Chelsea.”

Although the England international did not comment on a proposed contract extension, his words of commitment will be music to the ears of Blues fans.

For a time, Loftus-Cheek appeared destined to spend his time away from the club in a series of loan deals, but since he returned from Crystal Palace at the end of last season, he has excelled at Stamford Bridge.

His impressive performances may attract interest from other European giants, but the 23-year-old appears to have committed his future to Chelsea – if his recent comments are anything to go by.

With a good decade of football left in his career, Loftus-Cheek could yet become a legend at Stamford Bridge, and he can start by firing the Blues to European glory against Arsenal on May 29.
