Chelsea’s only addition of the summer transfer window is set to be Christian Pulisic, who the club officially signed in the winter before he was loaned back to Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season.
The American attacker became a beloved figure in Dortmund during his years at the club, earning an emotional send-off last weekend having racked up 19 goals and 25 assists in over 125 senior appearances.
Pulisic is still only 20 years of age and is unproven in England. But the endorsement of close friend and Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie will excite Chelsea supporters.
Speaking to Sky Sports on Wednesday, McKennie claimed that Pulisic will be a sensational signing for the Blues, due to his willingness to try new things and his love for a challenge.
“I think he’ll be a great signing for Chelsea. He may not get it right away, he may get in and play you never know, but I think he’ll be helpful for them in any way that they use him,” McKennie said.
“I’m excited for him, and I know he’s excited to start that next chapter of his career and make an even bigger name for himself.”
McKennie and Pulisic are close friends; the two came up through the United States youth ranks together, and then later grew close as part of the small American contingent playing in the Bundesliga.
Much is expected of the latter at Stamford Bridge next season as the upcoming transfer embargo will mean Chelsea must rely heavily on their current squad.
Pulisic has earned the praise of his international teammate, and Blues fans will be hoping his endorsement is not misplaced.
