Tottenham Hotspur linked with Newcastle man, others also interested – report

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Isaac Hayden from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window, according to The Chronicle.

The report claims that the 24-year-old defensive midfielder wants to leave St James’ Park this summer, and that the Magpies will demand between £15 million and £20 million for the former Arsenal prospect.

The report also links Crystal Palace and West Ham United with interest in the former England Under-21 international.

Hayden is a good defensive midfielder who has done well for Newcastle over the past few years, but the 24-year-old would be an underwhelming signing for Tottenham this summer.

Spurs did not sign a single player in the summer of 2018 or in the January transfer window, and if manager Mauricio Pochettino brings Hayden to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer then not many fans of the North London outfit will be impressed or ecstatic.

Moreover, Hayden is a former Arsenal player, and that will not sit well with Spurs fans given the intense rivalry between the two North London rivals.

Perhaps manager Pochettino sees Hayden as a squad player. If that is the case, then the Newcastle defensive midfielder may not willing to move to Spurs to just sit on the substitutes’ bench.

Moreover, according to The Chronicle, West Ham and Palace – both based in London, like Tottenham – are also interested in Hayden, which means that the Englishman has options and may not be desperate to move to Spurs.
