West Ham United are considering a summer move to sign Mexican defender Edson Alvarez this summer, according to reports.
This is reported by the Daily Record who claims the Premier League club have submitted an offer for the defender.
Further report from the outlet also claims Premier League giants Wolverhampton Wanderers are eyeing move for the player as well and the Molineux outfit are leading the chase for his signature.
With Wolves’ reported interest in the defender, it will be interesting to see how the Hammers can beat off competition to snap him up this summer.
There is no doubt of the club’s interest and need of improving their defensive options before the start of the season more especially, for someone to partner Issa Diop in the defense.
The 21-year-old has done pretty well for his country and he could prove to be a good addition for the club while he will certainly be an upgrade on the likes of Ogbonna and Reid.
Currently plying his trade with Club America in the MLS, Alvarez can also be deployed as a defensive midfielder and his versatility will be an added bonus for the East London club.
According to the Record, his club are prepared to let him leave the club for the right price and it will be interesting to see if the Premier League club’s bid would be accepted.
Alvarez’s is said to be valued at around £15.5 million and West Ham certainly have the resources to match their asking price.
