Premier League club Newcastle United have already start preparing for their next activity in the transfer window with reports that the Magpies are keen on signing Championship striker Macauley Bonne.
The report is according to talkSPORT, who claims the Magpies are ‘slightly ahead’ of the likes of Leicester City and Fulham in the race for the 24-year-old, who has been in red-hot form recently.
Bonne has netted six Championship goals so far this season, and his performance has caught the eye since coming to replace the injured Lyle Taylor.
The centre-forward who can also be used in the right and left wing only signed for the Addicks in the summer on a three-year deal for a reported £200,000.
Bonne was only playing for National League football side Leyton Orient before he got snapped up to Charlton, but scored 23 goals last season and 22 goals in the 2017/18 season.
Now in the Championship, Bonne has proven himself to be a prolific league striker over the few years, and perhaps he could more with a job in the Premier League.
While it’s arguably a big risk for Newcastle Unites signing Bonne in the January transfer window, but he couldn’t do too much worse than any of Steve Bruce’s current attacking options.
The Magpies most goals have mainly been scored by the defence and from midfielder so far this season, and Joelinton is showing he may need a full season to adapt to the demanding English top-flight football.
There are serious question marks over Dwight Gayle’s potential to score goals in the Premier League for Newcastle United, and Andy Carroll is effective but his injury record means the 9-cap former England international can never be relied on.
This next couple of weeks would be a hell of fixtures for Steve Bruce and his men with fixtures against Burnley, Crystal Palace, Manchester United, Everton and Leicester City could be season defining for them.
