Celtic linked with a right-back who’s rated at £750k – is he worth the scuffle?

Celtic are said to be showing an interest in signing Lechia Gdańsk defender Karol Fila this January.

According to Inside Futbol citing reports from Polish based website Zagranie.com, Celtic have shown a “strong interest” in signing the defender this month.

The speculation is confirmed further with another Polish based outlet Gol24 saying the Hoops are keen on securing the services of the Polish player who’s rated at £750,000.

Fila, however, is contracted to Lechi Gdańsk until they summer of 2022 and has registered well over 50 appearances for the Polish side.

The Scottish Premiership league leaders sudden interest in Fila came as a surprise given the number of options they available at right-back.

They have available in the ranks Jeremie Frimpong and Moritz Bauer both fit and available prior to the winter break, while the club also have Hatem Abd Elhamed on the recovery sideline.

Meanwhile Lee O’Connor has been impressing for Celtic’s Reserves side and the Republic of Ireland’s Under-21 side, and could well be knocking on the door of the first-team by the end of the season.

Adding Fila to the ranks would certainly further strengthen Lennon’s options, but many Hoops fans will question whether Celtic really need the signing of the Poland Under-21 international.
