Celtic suffer blow and belittled in pursuit of £4-million striker

Celtic could miss out on January transfer target Patryk Klimala – with the Hoops Europa League opponents Copenhagen lodging a bid for the attack.

Klimala has severally been touted with a move to the Parkhead as Neil Lennon continues to search for another striker to help Odsonne Edouard upfront.

Klimala, 21, is destined to leave current club Jagiellonia Bialystok in January who would demand around £4million for their striker.

However, despite the Hoops’ reported interest, Copenhagen have made their move for Klimala.

Sources in Poland according to Herald Sport that a financial package in Denmark would likely be more lucrative to the player than any Celtic might offer.

The report if it bears fruit, would be a blow for Lennon as his side come up against Copenhagen in the Europa League round of 32 next month.

Klimala has so far this season scored seven goals in 17 games in all competitions this season and has represented his country at youth level.

He has stressed, though, that he will only leave his homeland to join a club where he’ll be first-choice striker.

And, when asked about the clubs monitoring him, Klimala said:

“From what I know, and I don’t know much, they were teams from Italy and Denmark. My manager is to call me only when there are specific offers on the table.

“I don’t know what will result, but the talks will definitely start in January. If someone wants me and it is a good option, I will go and fight.

“First of all, I don’t want to be the fourth choice, only the first. I want to develop, so I will also choose a league that will give me that.”

Aside Klimala, the reigning Scottish champions have been linked with moves for other strikers in recent weeks including Andraz Sporar and Le Havre’s Tino Kadewere.
