Belfast Live have claimed that Celtic are eyeing move for Motherwell midfielder Liam Donnelly as the Northern Ireland star continues to shine with Stephen Robinson’s side this season.
The 23-year-old has netted impressive nine goals from the central midfield this season across just 20 Scottish Premiership appearances. Donnelly was a product of Fulham academy and also have two assists for his side in joined back in the summer of 2018.
What Donnelly will offer Celtic is the ability to play in multiple positions. Aside playing in the central midfield, he can also be deployed as a deep midfielder, a box-to-box midfielder or even be used at the right-back or centre-back.
His superb form for Motherwell has gone unnoticed and same earned him called up by Northern Ireland, but he is yet to make an appearances.
Celtic are set to complete the signing of Ismaila Soro from Israeli side Bnei Yehuda – while Patryk Klimala is the only signing the club has made so far this month. But it seems the club wants another midfielder, and Donnelly is reported on Neil Lennon’s shortlist.
Ask most Celtic fans about a Northern Irish central midfielder and most will reply with the current manager in Lennon. Donnelly, also a Northern Irish midfielder, has the perfect mentor in Lennon.
Scoring from midfield in a side that have overperformed this season under Robinson, Donnelly can be an excellent signing for Cetic – an understated one at that. However, It remains to be seen what fee Motherwell will demand to sale their prized asset.
