“No please”, “Griffiths is better” – Some Bhoys reacts to Celtic link with £405k striker

Celtic have been keeping a close eye on Dundee United striker Lawrence Shankland, with the club’s recruitment chief Nick Hammond spotted in the crowd as the Scotsman bagged a hat-trick.

The 24-year-old striker is said to also be on the books of interest of London based club Queens Park Rangers, according to the Daily Record.

However, it appears some numbers of Celtic fans are not keen with the club’s move for the forward and would prefer their club did not make a move for him this ongoing transfer window or in the forseeable future.

Of their reactions on social networking site Twitter, one fan even went as far as saying they would rather stick with Vakoun Issouf Bayo with another saying Leigh Griffiths is better in his days – both of whom has struggled for form in the past 12 months and counting.

Bayo has found the net just once and assisted a further once in this 13 appearances to date, according to Transfermarkt.

Lawrence Shankland, who is valued at £405k, has scored 24 goals this season with 22 of those coming in just 19 Scottish Championship appearances to his name for Dundee United.

The striker made his debut for the national team back in October and his stock is on the rise but it appears the Celtic faithful are not convinced of his scoring ability to step up to the next level at a club where the demand is significantly higher.

The club’s recruitment guru, Nick Hammond, has been keeping tabs on Shankland but it remains to be seen whether or not the club will make a move for the 24-year-old.

It’s clear that, at the very least, he’s a natural goalscorer and his performances of late have been enough to convince Steve Clarke he’s worthy of a place in the national team set-up. Glasgow born, Shankland may well be worth taking a gamble on.
