Report: Celtic linked to £315k goalkeeper – “a lucrative deal for Hoops as Fraser replacement”

Scottish giants Celtic F.C. have been linked with a move to sign Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Cameron Dawson. It appears the club is already preparing for life ahead of the summer should Fraser Forster returns to parent club Southampton.

Sheffield-based news outlet Sheffield Star says that the goalkeeper is eager to see his future get sorted out by the Owls as soon as possible with Celtic strongly linked with a move.

Dawson’s current deal with Sheff Wed expires in the summer of 2020, but talks have been ongoing over a new contract for the goalkeeper.

However, the likes of Rangers, Derby County, and Blackburn Rovers are also closely monitoring the goalkeeper situation, as per the reports.

The 24-year-olds goalkeeper is valued at £315k, according to Transfermarkt and has formerly plied his trade for the England Under-19s side, apart from also having played for their Under-18s side.

So far this season, Dawson has registered 16 appearances across all competition for Sheffield Wednesday. 13 of Dawson’s appearances have come in the Championship games for the Owls, with the goalkeeper having kept a total of six clean sheets in the league and conceded ten goals.

Back in the first half of the previous season, the Sheffield-born goalkeeper was regular starting between the sticks for Sheffield. He has a total of 28 appearances in all competitions to his name for the club and kept only three cleans sheets and conceded in 46 goals.

The goalkeeper is a product of Sheffield’s youth academy and has made 55 appearances in all competitions for the club. Keeping 19 clean sheets and conceding 65 goals.

The high numbers of goals conceded while he’s between the stick are said to be as a result of the club’s poor options in defence and despite that fact the total number of clean sheets kept by Dawson is remarkable.

Dawson would only showcase more of his strong performance if he is to ply his trade in Scotland with Celtic, – who have conceded just 13 goals this season – who have the second-best defence performance this season after Rangers.

This season, Fraser Forster on loan from Premier League club Southampton, has been Celtic’s first-choice goalkeeper between the sticks. Forster has made 25 appearances in all outings for the club, with Scott Bain the club’s second-choice goalkeeper.

If the England international doesn’t sign permanently for Celtic, the Hoops could consider signing Dawson permanently in the summer.

The signing of Dawson would be cheap for the Glasgow club and as the Sheffield Wednesday goalie is still 24, it will present a very lucrative deal for the Hoops.
