Edinson Cavani agent Walter Guglielmone has revealed the reason behind his client’s Chelsea, Manchester United snub in the January transfer window, as per The Sun.
The player’s agent said that Cavani would have joined either of the Premier League giants if he was only thinking about money.
The Uruguayan footballer requested his club last month that he be allowed to leave amidst several clubs interested in hiring his services.
The 32-year-old looked set to join La Liga club Atletico Madrid but the move broke down when the Parisians demanded £25million for the player.
Guglielmone conceded that the forward was desperate for a move to the Spanish side and was even ready to lower his wage demands.
The player’s brother/agent was quoted saying by The Sun:
“Cavani was willing to receive less than with PSG.
“Atletico could not cover the total economic cost of the operation and PSG did not want to lower the amounts he was asking for. Atletico Madrid did not close the agreement.
“Do you think that Edi did not play for almost a month at PSG so that I could drop the operation for a commission and that Edi did not fulfill his dream of going to Atletico Madrid?
“If it were for money, Edi would have gone to England, Manchester or Chelsea.”
The former Napoli player is currently struggling for game time in Paris having made only 10 League appearances for PSG so far this campaign.
It is believed that the experienced striker was unwilling to move to England because he wanted guaranteed game time, and the increased competition at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford would have made the prospect of regular football unlikely for him.
