Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld gushes over his side new signing Steven Bergwijn after his impressive debut on Sunday, as per Goal.
The 22-year-old scored a superb goal in his first match that helped Mourinho’s side win by 2-0 over Manchester City.
Guardiola’s side dominated the game but Spurs snatched the full points as Bergwijn provided the moment of magic to get his side ahead. The Dutch international received Lucas Moura’s ball, took a touch and smashed it past the keeper in the second half. The former PSV forward left the field with what appeared to be cramp but the win was secured for the London club when Son Heung-min doubled the lead.
The Dutchman made headlines in just his first match for the Lilywhites, and the fans will hope that he continues this form as Spurs hope to pip Chelsea for the Champions League qualification spot.
Toby Alderweireld was greatly impressed with his new teammate’s performance and expressed his admiration after the match.
He told the media:
“I was particularly impressed by his professionalism.
“Sometimes you have guys who are very good in the Netherlands and then start very naively here.
“That is not the case with Steven. He is very sober and has a good head.
“He will notice that playing in the Premier League is different from playing in the Eredivisie.
“He immediately showed that he can handle the level.”
