According to the Daily Mirror, Atletico Madrid have joined the transfer race for Ivan Rakitic who has been pursued by Manchester United for some time.
The 31-year-old came to Barcelona in 2014 from Sevilla where he made 117 league appearances and scored 27 goals.
His time at the Nou Camp has been highly successful, winning him four La Liga titles and one Champions League trophy.
The Croatian earned 298 appearances for the Spanish giants, scoring 34 goals and creating 41 assists.
But now he looks to be on his way out of Barcelona with several clubs reportedly interested in securing his services.
United have been pursuing the experienced midfielder for some time now, but it appears they could lose the transfer race to Atletico.
The report suggests that the Croatian wants to play in Spain rather than switch a move to England. This puts Diego Simeone’s side in an advantageous position to land Rakitic.
The Red and Whites reportedly approached the former Basel player last season, and now they want to renew their interests again to sign him this summer.
