Arsenal sign young defender Jonathan Dinzeyi on free transfer

Arsenal have signed defender Jonathan Dinzeyi on a free transfer with the player expected to join the club’s Under-23s ahead of the new campaign, as per football.london.

He was part of Tottenham Hotspur’s youth system but he departed the club after his contract expired this summer.

The 20-year-old is the latest signing to the Gunners’ academy which has been witnessing a lot of activity recently in terms of incoming signings. They first hired Norwegian teenager George Lewis before central midfielders Tim Akinola and Salah-Eddine also joined the club.

Important players from the last campaign for the team, which included Matt Smith, Trae Coyle, Zech Medley, Konstantinos Mavropanos, and Zak Swanson were loaned out to different clubs for the next season, thus leaving space for new recruits to show their skills.

The young player earned 22 appearances for the London side in the Premier League 2 between 2017 and 2020 before he left the club in the summer. He first impressed by displaying his skills for the club’s Under-18s in 2016-17 campaign when he clocked up 19 appearances, and the next season he earned 11 appearances.

The 20-year-old has also been featured for England at Under-18 level, with the defender earning four appearances for the national side in 2016.

The loan spells of Medley and Mavropanos will help to increase opportunities for Dinzeyi under head coach Steve Bould during the new season. However, he will have to compete with Harr Clarke, Mark McGuinness, and Dan Ballard, if they remain at the club.
