Scottish champions Celtic are eyeing a move for Liverpool forward Taiwo Awoniyi, according to the Daily Star.
The report claims that the Bhoys are in the market to find a replacement for Odsonne Edouard if he decides to leave Celtic Park, and they have identified the 23-year-old as a potential signing. He is valued at around £9million.
Awoniyi joined the Premier League heavyweights in 2015 as a teenager but he has been mostly on loan spells to different clubs in the world.
He has experienced short spells at FSV Frankfurt, NEC, Royal Excel Mouscron, and Gent. While most recently for the 2019-20 campaign, he was with the Bundesliga club Mainz where he clocked up 12 league appearances and scored one goal.
The young footballer has also represented his country Nigeria at youth international level, with the forward part of the squad at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup and the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The 23-year-old has shown that he has great potential during his various loan spells to different clubs.
Celtic should try their level best to keep Edouard in Glasgow as he could play an important role in getting them their tenth successive league title.
However, it is also a smart decision to look for a replacement as their Champions League exit could make their star player re-consider his future at Celtic Park.
Taiwo is a gifted striker who has learned a great deal from his loan spells, however, it is not certain whether the transfer merits the huge amount of £9million.
