Chris Sutton has slammed Celtic after the Hoops suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of Ferencvaros in the Champions League, as per The Boot Room.
The Bhoys were knocked out in the second qualifying round after their 2-1 loss to the Hungarian minnows, and thus they suffered elimination before making to the group stages for the third consecutive season.
The Scottish champions dominated the game, however, they missed a lot of good scoring opportunities, and that ultimately cost them the match, even though they had the home advantage.
David Siger opened the scoring for the Green Eagles after just seven minutes in the game, but Ryan Christie managed to equalize just after the interval.
The Hoops dominated possession but they were severely punished for their missed chances when Tokmac Nguen scored the winner in the 75th minute.
Ex-Celtic hero Sutton took to Twitter to issue a strong statement about the performance of his former club who must now make their preparations for playing in the Europa League.
He said:
“That’s a bad, bad night for Celtic. No excuses. Embarrassing. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.”
The Hoops supporters might be worrying about the impact this defeat could have on some of their star players.
Now with no Champions League football on offer, players like Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer could consider moving away from Celtic Park.
Celtic have made a good start to the Scottish Premiership and they will be looking to win their tenth league title in succession now.
However, their supporters must have been greatly disappointed that their team’s domestic successes are not translating well into achievements in Europe.
