Manchester United midfielder Fred has said that he wants to stay at Manchester United, denying claims that he could exit Old Trafford to join Galatasaray following the arrival of Donny van de Beek from Ajax last month, as per 90MIN.
The 27-year-old started 23 consecutive matches in the top-flight last campaign, however, his game time greatly suffered after Paul Pogba fully recovered and returned to the side, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reluctant to tinker with the team.
The Red Devils signed Van de Beek for £40 million this summer and that led to claims that the Brazilian could leave the club. Speculations about his future grew further when Turkish club Galatasaray were linked and the former Shakhtar Donetsk player liked a post on Instagram that linked him with the Super Lig side.
“I want to stay here – that’s my desire,” he said to FourFourTwo.
“I don’t want to leave. As I’ve always said, I want to be an important player and win trophies for this club.
“[Van de Beek’s arrival] means we’re getting stronger and that’s good for everyone at United.
“We need more players for this season because it will be even more demanding: the calendar is crammed and we need a strong squad to compete for every title. When you play at a big club, there will always be competition – I’m used to it. It’s been like that from day one at United.”
The Red Devils are still interested to sign new players ahead of the new Premier League season, which will begin a week later than other clubs because of their prolonged engagement in the Europa League.
It is said that they are keen to hire the services of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and are still hopeful of striking a deal. They are interested to bring a left-back, centre back and striker to Old Trafford, although the chances of their hiring Sancho as well as filling all three positions look dim.
