According to Goal.com, Liverpool are close to signing Bayern Munich player Thiago Alcantara as they have agreed an initial £20 million fee for the midfielder.
The 29-year-old has been heavily linked with the Reds this summer and now the two clubs have agreed on a fee, with the Premier League giants now set to agree terms with Thiago who is reportedly interested to move to the English club.
It is said that a four-year deal will be settled, with the Spaniard set to be given the Number 6 shirt formerly worn by Dejan Lovren who has now left to join Zenit Saint Petersburg. However, he will not be playing the upcoming Chelsea match but could be handed his debut against Lincoln City.
The Goal report further says that Thiago’s deal is not dependant on any departures from the club, despite midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum linked with Barcelona move. There has also been speculation about Rhian Brewster’s future too, with Sheffield United credited with an interest.
The 29-year-old’s arrival will give a big boost to the Anfield side who have only signed Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos this transfer window.
With the Spain international having told his side that he wanted to move this summer, the Reds have been leading the race to secure the player’s signature, despite interest from Manchester United and Barcelona.
Signing the Spaniard would represent a policy change for the club’s owners who have mostly brought in younger footballers, with Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Aisson Becker, Fabinho all joining the club in their early-to-mid 20s.
