Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Paul Pobga will miss the upcoming friendly match against Aston Villa, but he is hopeful that the Frenchman will return to action against Crystal Palace in the opening match of the Premier League, as per Goal.com.
The 27-year-old has recently been tested positive for coronavirus while he was with the France squad who were preparing for the Nations League.
Didier Deschamps subsequently sent him home in order to self-isolate, thus he missed the training with his teammates as well as the matches against Sweden and Croatia.
Giving an update about the midfielder, Solskjaer said to MUTV:
“Paul’s had a couple of training sessions, so he’s lost out on a few sessions because of the virus, of course. But Paul is quick to get fit…. hopefully, he’ll be ready for next weekend. I am not 100 per cent sure, though.”
The France international saw a frustrating 2019-20 season, in which he managed to earn only 22 appearances in all competitions due to his ankle injury.
The World Cup winner featured in 16 matches in the top-flight last campaign, netting a single goal and creating four assists for the Premier League giants.
Pogba first joined the youth academy of United in the summer of 2009 and went on to make three league appearances for the senior team. However, he left for Juventus in the summer of 2012, where he garnered great successes that included four Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa Italiana titles.
He returned to Old Trafford in 2016 for a record transfer fee (£89 million), and so far he has clocked up 164 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, smashing 32 goals and creating 33 assists.
