Rangers want to sign Preston star Daniel Johnson

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard wants to sign Preston North End player Daniel Johnson this summer, as per The Daily Record.

The Light Blues are looking to bolster their ranks in order to stop Celtic from winning their tenth league title in a row. The English boss has expressed his desire to improve his squad all summer and it looks he has identified the 27-year-old as a key target.

The report claims that the Gers have made an offer in the region of £2 million for the midfielder who has been a consistent performer in the Championship.

The Jamaican has clocked up 184 appearances in the second-tier of English football, smashing 33 goals and creating 23 assists.

However, it is said that the Lilywhites want to keep hold of the midfielder. The Jamaican footballer has been playing an important role in midfield for the Lancashire based club, racking up 33 appearances last campaign and 35 in the season before that.

The 27-year-old looks well settled at his present club, however, he could be tempted to join a club the size of Rangers and the chance to work under a manager like Steven could be very appealing for him.

But a fee of £2 million looks a small amount for hiring the services of a player who has earned such a big reputation in the Championship.

For the Ibrox side, the former Aston Villa player looks to be a very good fit. He is an experienced figure who is good with the ball, and he could be a smart addition for the Scottish side.
