Roma turn down Tottenham approach for 21-year-old talent

According to 90MIN, Roma have rejected an approach from Tottenham for their talented youngster Nicolo Zaniolo, with the club adamant he is not for sale.

The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the club’s most prized asset and rumours suggested he could be sold this summer to fund a squad rebuild, with Jose Mourinho’s side leading the transfer race ahead of Juventus and Inter.

However, with US billionaire Dan Friedkin who takes over the club in August, admitted Roma reportedly are no longer interested in selling any of their star players this summer.

The report further claims that the new owner wants La Lupa to compete for the Serie A title and therefore he doesn’t want Zaniolo to leave.

Mourinho wanted to lure the player to England, with Tanguy Ndombele’s Tottenham future uncertain.

However, it became clear soon that the Serie A side are not interested in selling the 21-year-old. Contrary to reports, the London side didn’t make a formal bid after knowing that the Italian outfit had no intention to do transfer business.

The 21-year-old was impressive last season, scoring eight goals and creating three assists even though he suffered a cruciate ligament injury in January that kept him out of the game for six months. However, he only missed ten league matches because of the suspension of football due to the pandemic.

It looks the Portuguese boss will have to look elsewhere for bringing reinforcements this summer. He has already hired the services of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton And Matt Doherty from Wolves, but still, he wants to sign someone with more creativity.
