According to a Guardian report, Tottenham are set to hire the services of Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon after Manchester United didn’t agree to include a buyback clause in the deal.
The 23-year-old, who spent the previous campaign at Sevilla on loan, was interested to join the Red Devils and play European football with them. However, as the Old Trafford club made it clear that they don’t want the buyback clause included, the representatives of Sergio stepped up the discussions with Spurs.
As per the Guardian report, the London side have agreed on personal terms with the Spaniard and have accepted to include €45 million buyback clause in the deal that will expire in June 2025.
Norwegian boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was interested to bring the left-back to Old Trafford but his club refused to accept the buyback clause and were not ready to meet €30m upfront. It is said they were interested to get a deal done for €20m plus add-ons.
Reguilon joined the youth setup of Los Blancos in 2005 when his age was eight. He spent two loan spells at Segunda Division B side UD Logrones where he racked up 43 total appearances with seven goals to his name.
For the Madrid club, he has made 22 appearances in all competitions, with three assists to his name.
The 23-year-old recently made his senior international debut when he was featured in Spain’s 4-0 victory over Ukraine in the UEFA Nations League.
