Andre Villas-Boas has acknowledged the high expectations he faces at Chelsea in his first press conference since succeeding Carlo Ancelotti as manager at the club.
The 33-year-old became the Blues’ seventh manager in eight seasons last week after owner Roman Abramovich agreed to meet Porto’s world record £13.3million release clause.
Villas-Boas has experienced working under Abramovich in the past as part of Jose Mourinho’s backroom staff and understands the need to win trophies in order to ensure the safety of his job.
‘What you expect at this club is to be successful straightaway,’ he said. ‘It is the same at any top club, you have to win every week. There is no running away from that. I will surprised if I am kept on the job I don’t win.’
‘It is something that is expected for me. I have to be successful. Who expects to stay at Chelsea if you don’t win anything?’
‘The expectations for the club, we know what they are, they are for the maximum success. The managers that have sat in this chair for the last seven years have been challenged to win trophies.’
